The super Nintendo entertainment system was first 16 bit video game console released in 1990 in japan, the SNES was a huge success becoming the bestselling console of the era. The console was introduced with advanced graphics and sound support, plus development of enhancement chips made it competitive in the market. Sega genesis was released before SNES which allowed Genesis to gain a lead on marketing campaign. Even though genesis led the SNES in sales in 16 bit generation consoles, but the SNES eventually took over as the generation had ended. The SNES was designed by Masayuki Uemura, who also designed the original Famicom. One of the main selling points for the console was the fact that it was packaged with Super Mario World. Originally, very few titles were shipped upon release, such as Pilotwings, F-Zero, SimCity, and Gradius III, but these titles were all very well-received and showcased the SNES's Mode 7 abilities.
